Learn More about Byron Bay

About this place

Byron Bay is an Australian town in the Shire of Byron, New South Wales. The town is named after Cape Byron, named by James Cook after the navigator John Byron, grandfather of the poet Lord Byron. It has the most powerful lighthouse in Australia, visible from 27,000 nautical miles away, which is the easternmost point in the country.
A popular place for surfers because of the large number of beaches, each as beautiful as the other (Tallow Beach, The Pass, Main Beach or Belongil Beach) and the diversity of the waves, Byron Bay is a city where life is good. The hippie atmosphere of the 70's is very present and can be seen in the numerous shops and restaurants. The humid subtropical climate, with warm summers and mild winters, allows tourists to enjoy the beaches all year round.

A place of peace with nature

The surroundings of the city are very wild. The mountains are surrounded by forests. To the north, is the Tyagarah Nature Reserve, and to the south, the Arakwal National Park. They offer excursions in the middle of nature. You can also visit the small villages located inland, of which the most famous is Nimbin. It is located one hour from Byron Bay and is considered the Australian hippie village par excellence.
The bay is also exceptionally rich in aquatic life and is, therefore, an unmissable scuba diving site. Dolphins, manta rays, or turtles can be observed and in November, it is not impossible to see whales.
